On August 6, one of God’s mighty men moved to Heaven. Jim Munsey was a pastor. He was a teacher. He was a prophet. And he – along with his wife, Carolyn – gave me some tools which changed my life forever!
In 1979 my life was truly off course. Though I had grown up in a Christian home, I had allowed intellectualism to drive me away from God. Desperate – and finally humble enough to be teachable, I had prayed for Jesus to be my Savior. That moment and the ensuing years were some of the most significant of my life.
Soon after that prayer, I began submitting myself to the teaching of Jim and Carolyn Munsey as I attended New Life Christian Center (now New Life Family Church). I would hang on to every word as they opened up the scriptures to me and demonstrated lives truly committed to Jesus and His Word..
My family was at church on every possible occasion, basking in the teaching and the true love of God which emanated from this powerful couple. They were like anchors for us as we healed and learned to stand on our own.
Many years have passed since those days. My husband and I eventually were called into the ministry and ordained. We founded and have pastored a church for 18 years. Yet the impartation received during those early years is still part of our foundation today. We have had many teachers, but only one father.
I want to say to my heavenly Father, “Thank you for sending such great people as Jim and Carolyn Munsey into my life.” And I want to say to Jim and Carolyn Munsey, “Thank you for your faithfulness to the call. Thank you for the hours you spent studying God’s Word and your obedience in sharing it. You will always be two of my heros.”
