Day 15 28 Days To Confidence In Prayer
I am convinced that God does nothing on earth except in response to believing prayer. John WesleyWell we are half way through with our challenge and we are finally praying. You might say, “Why did it take so long?” If we truly want to become confident in our prayers, we have to have the proper foundation.
Have you ever wondered why we pray? Do you sometimes think that God wants you to beg Him for things? Do you think that He is indifferent to what is happening to you? Or that He doesn’t know about your needs? Well, that’s why we took so long in laying our foundation. When we understand about the authority of God’s Word, the importance of being born again, the covenant we have with Jesus, and our Father’s love for us, it’s so much easier to have God’s plan come into focus.
So why do we pray? God gave man dominion on the earth, and that has always been His plan. The reason you ask Him for things is because of your free will. He says to you, “What do you want?” God doesn’t treat you as a puppet, but recognizes your individuality and your desires. He won’t cross your will.
Your Heavenly Father comes to you when He is asked and He honors His Word in your life when you honor His Word; when you believe it and ask for it. God’s will is in His Word. It explains His covenant with us and shows us how we appropriate it.
Remember, when you are a Christian, you are in covenant with God through Jesus. Read the Word to discover the details of your covenant: what God has promised you and what He expects from you. Then you pray those promises back to God, expecting His will to be done in your life.
I John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have toward Him that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us and if He hears us, we know that we have the requests we have made of Him.If you will work with God for His will to be done, it will be done. Your part is to pray and ask Him; His part is to do it. You can’t “make things happen.” You can’t “make”health come to your body, success come to your family and work, or a turnaround come to our troubled nation. But as we pray God’s will (as seen in His Word), He can cause these things to happen. He won’t control other people, but He knows just the circumstances to bring about which will bring needed change.
Today, make a list of the things for which you want to pray. Don’t bother listing things against God’s will, but list those things H
e has promised to those who are in covenant with Him. Then begin praying those things back to your Heavenly Father. This is what He tells us to do, so do it with faith and fervor.
