Day 21 28 days To Confidence In Prayer
We’ve covered a lot of territory in the last three weeks. We’ve talked about being born again, being filled with the Spirit, and honoring God’s Word as final authority. We’ve also talked about having dominion in the earth as a believer: the charge by God to speak His Word into the atmosphere. So now what? What exactly should we do when we pray?
Today we are going to talk about putting it all together. When do we speak the Word? When do we pray in tongues? When do we just pray and ask God? Well to answer all of these questions, we have to remember our foundation. Jesus is our Lord and He directs our prayers as well as every other area of our lives.
So often, when we enter into a life of prayer, we see those ahead of us and just try to copy them. But God is not looking for rubber stamped copy cats. He wants originals. And originals can only come from a relationship with Him. We spend time with our Father and His Word and he shows us what to say or do. A few words which come from this source are far more productive than a thousand words just repeated by imitation. When you listen to people who have a powerful prayer life, they may sound very different in their approach. Yet the principles are the same. God speaks to them in their inner man and He directs their prayers.
I will share with you how I usually pray. (But this is just an example. Remember, your Father wants to direct you personally). I start with worshipping and praising my Lord. I thank Him for who He is and for His wonderful plan for me and my loved ones. I read His Word for awhile. Then I begin to listen. Sometimes I will pray in the Spirit for awhile. I keep my Bible handy so that my Father can give me some scripture. He will impress upon me something or someone to pray for. Sometimes He will impress upon me some words to pray to Him; other times He will show me words to speak into the atmosphere. Each prayer session is different.
As you can see, the prayer session is directed by my Lord. He is the boss. He knows what is good for me and my family. He tells me what to pray and when to pray it. It’s truly a supernatural walk of faith which allows me to walk with my God to achieve His purposes. What a privilege!
In short, He needs someone to pray because of the way He set up His plan. I need Him to carry out His plan. I have the dominion on earth He gave me to do this.; He has the power to make things happen. The two of us work together and His will gets accomplished. Sometimes my prayers are for seemingly small things; sometimes for big ones. The goal is to keep praying. Regardless of the circumstances, if we keep praying and expecting results, we will see the results we are looking for.
Be consistent and persistent. You will see great things accomplished!
It’s time to get out your prayer journal and really go to work. You might want to pour out your heart to God in writing; you might want to write down the scriptures He has spoken to you. It’s your journal and your prayer life – it’s all based on your personal walk with your Creator. Be honest. Be expectant. He will show you wonderful things you never knew before and He will increase your faith and hope.
You will definitely want to keep a record of your prayers as they are answered. As you see God work in your life, your faith will continue to rise. So go for it!
